Featured here are some bamboo planting configurations.
For ease of scaling up these layouts have simple 10′ x 10′ dimensions.
The closest that most bamboo can be planted is 5′ on center. They can be planted further apart, but no closer.
This first layout below is a 10′ x 10′ bed with 9 plants set in at 5′ on center. Because of this the bed would end up a few inches larger than 10′ x 10′. With most Phyllostachys species this bed would become a solid grove in approximately 3 to 4 years using 5 gal plants.

This 10′ x 10′ bed shown below is planted with with 8 plants set in at 5′ on center, but with staggered rows. This bed would end up a few inches larger than 10′ x 10′ due to the configuration, but will appear fuller sooner due to the staggering. With most Phyllostachys species this bed would become a solid grove in approximately 4 years using 5 gal plants.

This 10′ x 10′ bed below has been planted with 4 plants set in at 5′ on center and 2.5′ from each edge. With most Phyllostachys species this bed would become a solid grove in approximately 5 years using 5 gal plants.

Here 1 plant has been planted in the center of a 10′ x 10′ bed. With most Phyllostachys species this bed would become a solid grove in approximately 5 to 7 years using a 5 gal plant.
